Do RX-202s have crappy Dolby circuits, or does my specific RX-202 need to go back to (a different) shop?īTW, playing back non-Dolby tapes recorded with the CR-7 on my RX-202 yields much better results - although (understandably?) the playback doesn't sound *quite* as good as the CR-7s - a little bit of high-end and some "space" missing. What gives? I thought Dolby C between Naks was supposed to be a pretty sure bet. Oddly, switching the 202 to Dolby B made this even *worse*. Even though I just got this back from a local shop (NOT Willy Hermann) where it was calibrated, playing the tape back with Dolby C on the RX-202 was not good - there was a noticeable loss of high end and "space". Playing the tape back on an RX-202 was another story, though.

I recorded Roxy Music's Avalon LP from a 24/96 vinyl transfer* to a fresh-outta-the-wrapper TDK SM60 cassette and was mightily impressed with how exact the CR-7's reproduction was when A/Bing during the recording with the monitor button.
